The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai has said the Nigerian Army has defeated the Boko Haram insurgents.

He also commended the Army for crushing terrorism in the north east.

The army chief spoke over the weekend while laying the foundation stone for the new Brigade headquarters complex at the 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He said that the army will remain vigilant to contend any new strategy that may be adopted by the terrorists.

Buratai said: “The North East operation is critical at this stage. The terrorists have been defeated; these criminals may rear their ugly heads through other means. We will continue to maintain vigilance.”

Besides, he assured that the federal government will continue to give special attention to the welfare of soldiers.

He commended soldiers of the 2 Brigade for their commitment to duty, stressing that the Nigerian army had remained celebrated all over the world for professionalism and high level of discipline.

The Chief of Army Staff also commended the effort of the Brigade in the anti-oil theft war, saying they should continue to maintain very high standard of discipline.

He said the army will improve on challenges of accommodation in barracks round the country, adding that attention will also be given to the medical needs of soldiers and their family members.

   The Brihadeeswarar Temple, (Also known as Black Magic Removal Temple) was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987.    The temple also sports a depiction in stone, of eighty one of the one hundred and eight karanas of Bharata Muni’s Natya Sastra – the first of its kind – setting the pace for many others to follow in succeeding centuries.The history depicted on the temple walls will not make much sense without an idea of the background of Chola rule and hegemony.The details of Rajaraja’s conquests, his army and navy, his administrative ability and his religious tolerance, are gleaned from the inscriptional evidence on the temple walls.
